An Ordinance to Provide for Water Rates for Retail Customers of the
Water System of the City of Fairfax, Virginia.
The City Council hereby ordains as follows:
1. That the rates for water furnished by the City of Fairfax,
effective upon the adoption of this ordinance, shall be as follows:
a. Residential consumers for properties within the corporate
limits: $6. 00 for the first nine thousand gallons or less per quarter and
$. 64 per thousand gallons for all water in excess of :_one thousand gallons.
b. Residential consumers for properties located beyond the
corporate limits: $9. 00 for the first nine thousand gallons or less per
quarter and $. 64 for each thousand gallons consumed beyond said nine
thousand gallons.
c. Commercial consumers for properties located within the
corporate limits: $4. 00 for the first five thousand gallons or less per month
and $. 64 for each one thousand gallons consumed beyond said five thousand
gallons.
d. Commercial consumers for properties located beyond the
corporate limits: $6. 00 for the first five thousand gallons or less per month
and $. 64 for each one thousand gallons beyond said five thousand gallons.
2. All billings for water service shall be made quarterly except
those commercial consumers using an average of more than five thousand
gallons a month who shall be billed monthly.

3. For the purpose of this ordinance, a commercial consumer
is defined as any consumer not a residential consumer. A residential
consumer is defined as any consumer using water on property devoted
exclusively to use as a single family residence, but permissible customary
home occupations shall not convert a residential consumer to a commercial
consumer. Any consumer using an average of not more than 5000 gallons
per month, based on his consumption during the previous calendar year,
shall be a residential consumer.
4. Should any section, paragraph, sentence, phrase, clause or
word of this ordinance be declared by a court of competent jurisdiction to
be invalid or unconstitutional such decision shall not affect the validity of
this ordinance as a whole or any other part thereof.
