AN ORDINANCE EXTENDING FOR NINETY (90) DAYS THE FRANCHISE
GRANTED TO VERIZON VIRGINIA LLC BY ORDINANCE ON JULY 20, 1982
(ORDINANCE NO. 1982-25)
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 1982-25, adopted by the City of Fairfax, Virginia (the
"City") on July 20, 1982, granted to Verizon Virginia LLC, as successor to Chesapeake and
Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia ("C&P"), for a period of thirty (30) years from and
after the final passage of said ordinance the right to construct, maintain, and operate its posts,
poles, conduits, manholes, ducts, cables, wires, and all other necessary overhead and
underground apparatuses on, over, along, in, under, and through the streets, alleys, highways,
and other public places within the City, for the purpose of providing telephone
communications services within the corporate limits of the City; and
WHEREAS the City is in the process of considering a new ordinance to award a new
franchise and may not finalize this process before July 19, 2012;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia that the franchise granted by Ordinance No. 1982-25 is hereby extended by
ninety (90) days until and through October 17, 2012.
This ordinance shall become effective as provided by law.
