APPROVAL OF THE DESIGN CONCEPTS FOR THE CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD
(ROUTE 123) BRIDGE REPLACEMENT OVER THE ACCOTINK CREEK
PROJECT
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, the City Council conducted a public hearing
on the design concepts for the Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) Bridge Replacement over the
Accotink Creek Project;
WHEREAS, during the public hearing the following comments were received:
1. Keep the proposed bridge width at about 47 feet;
2. Provide a sidewalk along the west side of the bridge to connect to the existing
sidewalk at Taba Cove and the pedestrian crosswalk across Chain Bridge Road;
3. Provide foot lights along the highway bridge and the pedestrian bridge.
4. Keep the existing location of the pedestrian bridge and reconstruct consistent with the
historical character of the site.
WHEREAS, at the June 14, 2011 City Council meeting, the City Council was
presented with revised design concepts for the Chain Bridge Road Bridge
Replacement over the Accotink Creek Project and the City Council directed staff to
proceed with the project with the revised design concepts per comments received
during the public outreach meetings, and comments received from the public and the
City Council at May 24, 2011 public hearing;
NOW, THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Virginia, hereby approves the revised design concepts for the Chain Bridge Road
Bridge Replacement over the Accotink Creek Project that are consistent to the comments
received during the May 24, 2011 public hearing.
