URBAN PROJECT PROGRAMMING RESOLUTION POLICY
CONSTRUCTION OF ADDITIONAL LANDSCAPING AND SECURITY FENCING
ALONG GEORGE MASON BOULEVARD BETWEEN ARMSTRONG STREET AND
SCHOOL STREET
WHEREAS, in accordance with Virginia Department of Transportation construction
allocation procedures, it is necessary that a request by Council resolution be made in order
that the Department program a locally administered urban highway project in the City of
Fairfax; and
WHEREAS, also in accordance with Virginia Department of Transportation
construction allocation procedures, a public hearing was conducted before the City Council of
the City of Fairfax, meeting in regular session on Tuesday, December 8, 2009; and
WHEREAS, also in accordance with Virginia Department of Transportation
construction allocation procedures, it is necessary for the City of Fairfax the Virginia
Department of Transportation to enter into an agreement to effect the execution of the locally
administered urban highway project; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary for an official of the City of Fairfax to be authorized by
the Council for the City of Fairfax to execute the agreement on behalf of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Fairfax requests that the Virginia Department of Transportation establish a locally
administered urban project for the construction of additional landscaping and security fencing
along George Mason Boulevard between Armstrong Street and School Street; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Fairfax requests
that the Virginia Department of Transportation reallocates sufficient funds from the George
Mason Boulevard Phase II Project, UPC No. 76995, to fund the locally administered urban
project herein requested; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Fairfax agrees to pay its share of
the total cost for preliminary engineering, right of way and construction of this project in
accordance with Section 33.1-44 of the Code of Virginia, and that, if the City of Fairfax
subsequently elects to cancel this project, the City of Fairfax hereby agrees to reimburse the
Virginia Department of Transportation for the total amount of the costs expended by the
Department through the date the Department is notified of such cancellation; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Manager for the City of Fairfax is
hereby authorized to execute the agreement between the Virginia Department of
Transportation and the City of Fairfax for the prosecution of the locally administered urban
project hereinabove requested.
