AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING SALARY GRADES AND RANGES FOR
THE CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICER POSITIONS OF TREASURER AND
COMMISSIONER OF THE REVENUE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA
1. BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the city of Fairfax,
Virginia, that the Constitutional officer positions of Treasurer
and Commissioner of the Revenue shall be treated as though they are!
part of the Position Classification Plan and Salary Schedule for
the City of Fairfax, Virginia ("Pay Plan") in the following
respects:
A. Effective July 1, 1994, the positions held by the
incumbent Treasurer and the incumbent Commissioner of the Revenue
each shall be compensated in annual salary amounts corresponding
to Grade 25, Step 12 in the Pay Plan.
B. Whenever either the position of Treasurer or the position
of Commissioner of the Revenue change incumbents, such newly
elected non-incumbent official or officials, as the case may be,
shall be compensated in an initial annual salary amount, determined
by ordinance enacted by the city Council, corresponding to an
appropriate step within Grade 25 in the Pay Plan, provided that
such annual salary exceeds the minimum established by the
Appropriations Act of the Virginia General Assembly.
C. During the annual adoption of the Pay Plan, the Council
will consider authorizing within grade increases of the positions
of Treasurer and Commissioner of the Revenue with the view towards
establishing that the officials in such positions progress through
the steps of the assigned grade on the same basis and at the same
rate as other positions assigned to such grade in the Pay Plan.
D. Cost of living increments and all other adjustments to
the Pay Plan shall apply to the positions of Treasurer and
Commissioner of the Revenue in the same manner as such increments
and adjustments apply to other positions in the Pay Plan.
2. Nothing herein is intended to conflict with any present or
future Appropriations Act of the Virginia General Assembly; impair
the legislative prerogative of any City Council; or create any
rights not previously existing.
3. This ordinance shall become effective on July 1, 1994.
