AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND RE-ENACTING
ARTICLE VI, CHAPTER 2,
OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA
WHEREAS, it is the sense of the City Council that the duties
and functions of the official city agency known as the Economic Develop-
ment Committee might more efficiently be discharged by a body composed
of knowledgeable citizens having no relation with the City Government,
and
WHEREAS, the Chamber of Commerce of the City of Fairfax has
expressed its willingness to assume the aforesaid duties and functions as
an official Chamber project by appointing a Committee composed of Cham-
ber members whose responsibility those duties and functions will be;
NC~, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council of
the City of Fairfax, Virginia as follows that Article VI of Chapter 2
of the Code of the City of Fairfax is hereby amended and re-enacted to
read in its entirety as follows:
ARTICLE VI. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
Sec. 2-32.
The Economic Development Committee as previously constituted here-
under is abolished and its duties, functions and responsibilities are
transferred to a Committee of the Fairfax City Chamber of Commerce.
The membership of said committee shall be as designated by the Chamber
of Commerce.
Sec. 2-33. Studies, Surveys and Recommendations.
The Economic Development Committee shall be invited to study
existing industrial and commercial conditions and the potential for
economic development of the City. Such surveys may include an assess-
ment of the competitive position and role of the City in the regional
economy, the business climate as affected by municipal laws and regu-
lations, the potential for development of any vacant industrial land,
the quality of shopping facilities and such other topics and areas
that may commend themselves to the Committee. The Committee is
invited to recommend to the City Council such programs as may be sug-
gested as a result of the Committee's studies and surveys, including
suggestions as to the ways and means of financing any suggested projects.
