CITY COUNCIL GOALS, 2004-2006
WHEREAS, the election of a Mayor and City Council creates an opportunity for re-
examination of the direction for the community; and
WHEREAS, voters in the City of Fairfax elect a Mayor and City Council every two
years; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council for the City of Fairfax, for 2004-2006 wish
to set forth the direction of the city for the next two years;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council establishes as its
goals for its 2004-2006 term of office:
1. Preserve and protect the City of Fairfax's "small town atmosphere" by

Expanding opportunities for citizen involvement in community decision-
making.
Enhancing quality of life measures and amenities with continued emphasis on
recommendations of the Livability Task Force.
Providing unsurpassed user-friendly, customer-focused business practices
for all city operations.
Programming a Bicentennial Celebration to commemorate the City's
Bicentennial year in 2005 that will engage all residents in the activities.
Implementation of the recently-adopted Comprehensive Plan that will reflect
development goals that are sensitive to and appropriate for the size and scale of the
community.
3. Finalize and implement current redevelopment and transportation projects:

Implementing the Downtown Redevelopment Project to strengthen the
city's economy and the creation of a revitalized downtown core.
Lee Highway Corridor Master Plan under the leadership of the BID Directors
Northfax Gateway
Fairfax City Regional Library
George Mason Boulevard
Implement a more accelerated schedule for critical transportation projects
involving state and federal funding.
Continue to pursue the implementation of infrastructure projects throughout the
city with specific emphasis on:

Providing for a referendum for schools' renovation and General Obligation
bond funding consistent with the request of the School Board
Adoption and implementation of the Water Treatment Plant Master Plan
Determining a site and capital construction plan for a community center.
Implementation of the Blenheim Site Restoration Master Plan as amended by
City Council.
Continued emphasis on the reduction of the impact of increasing traffic
through the City.
