RESOLUTION NO. R-02-7
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE CITY OF FAIRFAX TO APPLY FOR A GRANT
FROM THE FEDERAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION IN THE
AMOUNT OF $50,000 FOR ECONOMIC RECOVERY FUNDS AS A RESULT OF THE
EVENTS OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 AND FURTHER TO DISTRIBUTE THESE FUNDS
DIRECTLY TO THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA REGIONAL COMMISSION FOR
ULTIMATE USE BY THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA VISITORS CONSORTIUM TO FUND
A TOURISM MARKETING INIATIVE.
WHEREAS, the Federal Economic Development Administration has been tasked to
distribute $2.0 million for emergency economic recovery activities in Northern Virginia as a
result of the events of September 11, 2001; and,
WHEREAS, the funding for each of the seven Northern Virginia jurisdictions has
been established in the Federal procurement, legislation with the City of Fairfax designated to
receive $50,000; and,
WHEREAS, the tourism industry in the City of Fairfax and in Northern Virginia was
the most significantly affected industry; and,
WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Visitors Consortium through the Northern Virginia
Regional Commission is the marketing agency for the region,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Fairfax
on this twenty-sixth day of February, 2002, that the city will submit an application to the
Federal Economic Development Administration for grant funding in the amount of $50,000 to
be used for economic recovery from the events of September 11, 2001; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager will be authorized to execute all
grant applications and reports; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the funds will be distributed to the Northern
Virginia Regional Commission for use by the Northern Virginia Visitors Consortium to fund
its Emergency Marketing Plan.
