20000411 r-00-13RESOLUTION NO. R-00-13
VACATION OF SERVICE DRIVE
WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax has received a request by an
adjacent property owner to vacate the service drive on the south side of
Arlington Boulevard from the traffic circle to Pickett Road so that he
could acquire that portion of the right of way that fronts his property and
incorporate it into a commercially viable redevelopment including parking
and landscaping improvements, and
WHEREAS, neither the city's road improvement plans--
Comprehensive Plan, Six Year Plan, or CIP---contemplate the retention of
the service drive nor require the right of way for widening Arlington
Boulevard, and
WHEREAS, vacating the service drive doesn't reduce the lane
miles that are used in the calculation of the Virginia Department of
Transportation payment to the city for maintenance and new construction
and therefore has no impact on the city finances.
NOW, THERFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Fairfax, Virginia does hereby request that Virginia Department
of Transportation vacate the service drive right of way on the south side of
Arlington Boulevard from the Traffic Circle to Pickett Road.
